Grado: culinary art, history and sport!
During all the year is possible to find interesting events and exhibitions, in particular in summer this spectacular city is full of funny and historical and artistic events. First of all we have to consider the long history of this area: Grado has been in the past (since the roman’s time) the port of Aquileia (a roman colony important for its archeological patrimony), in the ancient time this was the second Rome’ of north side of the empire. This city has an important history, in fact here there are a lot of Venetian buildings and monuments, in particular in the town centre, and the most important is the Paleochristian Cathedral and also the old octagonal baptistery, definitely to be seen. In this picturesque village’ is possible to see traditional fishermen’s houses. Fishing has been since the past an importan breathslim t part of life, it was also the means of subsistence for people, and now it is possible to visit and see the wonderful old shelters of fishermen, in Italian called casoni, along the lagoon. Fishes has an important role in the culinary art of Grado , it is used in different dishes in particular for the worldwide known boreto a la graisàna or boreto alla gradese, an old fish dish of regional fishes of the lagoon, served with asparagus of Fossalon (a city near Grado) and are not to forget the cuttlefishes and blue fishes. Grado is also known for beaches, fine-sanded beaches, this is a protected area in terms of environment Bandiera Blu’, for its beauty and the clearness of water. Also up to the beginning of the 19th century, the European aristocracy used to get there in order to bathe in the seaside thermal springs.
